Travel Tip #23  Never leave original plane tickets in backpack
Water soaked thru my backpack and erased most of the ink on my return ticket
Ticket agents were not amused

This was one my last photos on the trip and I knew if I didn't take this photo I would regret it for a long time

at the bird zoo

Now it gets exciting

Iguaca Falls Argentina

Its a.......?
Iddy Biddy Spider

Yes, directly underneath these falls

Thrilling boat ride were we thought we were going to drown

On the way to the falls

On top of the thunderous Diablo Gargunta on the Argentinean side
There was no escape getting wet

Sign on the way to Foz de Iguacu

On to Foz do Iguacu on both the Argentinean and the Brazilian side
The falls consists of 275 separate falls
Some falls water plunge from the heights of a 24-story building

An old former prison converted jail cells into small stores selling crafts.

Our Hotel Navigantes lobby

I don't know how personally I should take this sign
After all we were wearing one piece swimming costumes

The view from our fancy hotel window in Recife
January is shark mating season in the shallow waters
 Ouch

Look carefully towards the end to see someone being carried out by 4 people
Also note the Skol beer for sale @ .75 cents
Most of it ended up on the streets and in my hair

Thank you Aunt Adel for cooling us off in the impossible midday heat

But well worth it

Colonial Olinda's Carnaval was a hairy 45 minute bus ride away from Recife

I didn't mention yet Brazil has the best fruit drinks I've ever tasted
Go and try an Acai

Interesting alien fruit everywhere

Selling everything everywhere

Off to Recife where Carnaval starts

Salvador warming up for Carnaval

Sunset

Jesus and a filing cabinet in an old church
Our hotel also had breakfast dessert every morning

Our wonderful Hotel Maridina

Walking down the cobblestone streets of Perinho

A hour day trip to Flamengo Beach offered us bbq cheese on a stick, sunglasses and sunburns

People swim at night because the weather is so warm

Here is a puree called Pirao made from the manioc root
Its quite filling and unlike anything I've ever tasted

The best meal I had was at a restaurant called Coisa Da Dada where we had an Afro-Brazilian regional dish called Moqueca
Its a fish stew with coconut milk, vegetables and palm oil

On to Salvador Brazil in the state of Bahia

The "club" he told us he would take us to was just an outdoor jam session under a bridge
But the music was better than any I heard throughout our trip

Our very hospitable but sloshed guide gives us a tour of a district in Rio called Lapa
Lots of fantastic music wafting around crowded street corners and restaurants
He shows us some sketchy alleyways on our way home
Nice!

Rio de Janeiro

Man fishing in lake.

Marcelo has a laugh on us

Marcelo, native of Rio de Janeiro, informs the two space girls from California, that surprise surprise, Carnaval is a week away! Buying and reading my travel guide in 2007, still doesn't change the fact that we were TRAVELING in 2008! Details Details! Carnaval dates change each year according to Easter.

Brazil, Rio Favela

One person's purchase of Cable TV is everyone's Cable TV! Favorite programs of Brazil: Soccer and Soap Operas.

Brazil keeps its garbage men extremely busy.
